Simone Inzaghi urged Lazio not to use their massive injury crisis as “an alibi” ahead of the meeting with Genoa.

It kicks off on Sunday at 14.00 GMT, click here for a match preview.

“Unfortunately, we’re just not very lucky at the moment and we went through a similar spell in the past,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We have 10 plyers unavailable this weekend: Wallace, Luiz Felipe, Bastos, Marco Parolo, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Luis Alberto, Lucas Leiva, Valon Berisha, Riza Durmisi and Jordan Lukaku.

“Of the list, only Ciro Immobile could have a place on the bench. This must not be an alibi, though, because a competitive Lazio side will still play against a tough Genoa opponent.

“It’s not easy to explain why we have all these injuries. There have been so many games close together, while last season we had three out of five defenders injured simultaneously. This time, it’s an injury crisis more spread out through the team.

“The other sides in Europe, such as Milan, Roma and Inter, also had a lot of these problems. We’ve got to overcome this difficult moment, not use it as an alibi and instead go forward with the right spirit.”

With Lucas Leiva, Luis Alberto, Parolo, Milinkovic-Savic and Durmisi out, we could see Milan Badelj and January signing Romulo in action.

“Badelj would’ve come against Sevilla had Bastos not been hurt midweek. I can confirm Patric will start, with Joan Correa upfront and Immobile is improving day by day, but we’ll have to evaluate it all tomorrow. Badelj has an excellent chance of starting.

“Genoa are sharp, they have forwards like Antonio Sanbria and Christian Kouame in good shape, but must be wary of their counter-attacks.

“When Cesare Prandelli arrived, he started by building on the three-mand defence put together by Ivan Juric, but have now seemingly settled into a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2.”
