The Aquile’s confidence took a massive hit after their 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Inter.

“We lost a game that was very important for us. We lost it by a wide margin and that should not have happened,” said Inzaghi in his Press conference.

“Up until the first goal, it was a very balanced encounter and we had done well. Inter ultimately deserved the win, but we weren’t world-beaters before that game and we’re not worthy of the scrap heap now.

“We have to look at what these lads have achieved over the last couple of years, finishing fifth and fourth in Serie A, with an Italian Super Cup on the shelf and a Coppa Italia Final.

“Some people might say that after fifth and fourth, we can give up on the Champions League, but I don’t. I still firmly believe in our chances and so do the players. It’s what we are all working towards.

“Too often in Rome, opinion lurches from one side to the other with no sense of equilibrium. We are fourth in Serie A, second in the Europa League in a very tough group and the lads are doing a great job.

“We analysed what happened, all took our share of the responsibility and now focus on SPAL, a very well-organised side and dangerous opponents. We can’t afford to get this one wrong.

“SPAL’s statistics show how strong they are, including a victory here against Roma last month, so we mustn’t make the same mistake.”

Senad Lulic is in doubt with a calf problem, while Milan Badelj and Lucas Leiva are out injured.
