Simone Inzaghi raised eyebrows when commenting that Andre Onana made ‘the same number of saves’ as Manuel Neuer during Inter’s Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, when he actually set a new record.

The coach made the statement during his post-match press conference at San Siro, evaluating the 2-0 home defeat to the German giants.

“Onana and Neuer made the same number of saves tonight,” said Inzaghi.

A quick glance at the statistics shows that was simply not true, as Onana – who was making his debut in the Nerazzurri jersey – made 10 saves compared to just two from his counterpart Neuer.

Official UEFA statistics show Bayern Munich had 21 total attempts on goal compared to Inter’s nine, with 50 attacks to 36.

The tactician had also irritated critics a few days earlier by insisting Inter had “done enough” to at least earn a point in their 3-2 defeat to Milan.

Inter owners are so far resisting pressure from fans and continuing to back their coach, who finished second in Serie A last season, winning the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana.

  1. Inzaghi is showing himself to be out of his depth this season. But then again, after the disastrous few transfer windows, he is still much more ‘in his depth’ than Zhang is!
