According to Sportitalia, the Nerazzurri have realised the cost of Antonio Conte’s first choice strikers are simply too high after a series of proposals were rejected.

Director Marotta hinted as much when speaking to Sky Sport Italia today about Manchester United’s Lukaku demands.

“We made a strong offer, one that is valid and suited to the transfer value of the player and we were unable to conclude a deal.

“We’ll continue to monitor the situation and anything can happen on the market.”

This suggests the latest bid will not be increased, while Roma continue to demand €20m for Dzeko.

Instead, Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà maintains Inter are turning to Plan B in the form of Cavani.

Now 32 years old and with Serie A experience at Palermo and Napoli, the Paris Saint-Germain hitman has reportedly been in contact with Uruguay international teammates Diego Godin and Matias Vecino to ask about life at Inter.

Cavani is only under contract with PSG until the end of this season and he scored 23 goals with nine assists in 33 competitive appearances last term.

He’d work as a good foil to Lautaro Martinez at San Siro and has precious Champions League experience too.
