According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Corriere della Sera and more, Inter President Erick Thohir is on the verge of sealing a deal with Etihad.

It’d be worth €125m to sponsor the Nerazzurri jerseys over a five-year period.

That would bring in €25m per season compared to the €12m per season currently earned in their agreement with Pirelli.

It’d make Inter by far the biggest earners from shirt sponsors in Serie A, as Sassuolo get €22m per year from Mapei (who also own the club), while Juventus and Milan pick up just €17m from Jeep and Emirates respectively.

The sponsorship contract with Pirelli is due to expire in June 2016, so it’s the perfect opportunity to boost the club coffers.

It would also explain why Thohir met with Honorary President Massimo Moratti this week, as it represents another split from the old guard.

There had been reports Moratti was ready to sell most of his remaining 30 per cent shares to an investor from the United Arab Emirates, which could well be someone connected to Etihad.
