La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Inter are looking at former players Sinisa Mihajlovic, Dejan Stankovic and Walter Zenga as potential candidates to succeed Antonio Conte.

The Nerazzurri confirmed Conte’s departure yesterday, with both Simone Inzaghi and Max Allegri reportedly on the verge of signing deals with Lazio and Juventus respectively.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta must find a new coach and the club doesn’t want to wait for too long. The list of reported candidates includes a few surprises.

The newspaper reports it’s highly unlikely to see Maurizio Sarri arrive at San Siro this summer, due to the club’s need to cut costs, but won’t exclude the former Napoli and Juventus coach completely.

But the report lists a host of former players, starting with Bologna coach Mihajlovic, who was at Inter as a player and Roberto Mancini’s assistant coach.

There’s also Red Star Belgrade coach Stankovic, who played for Inter from 2004 until he retired in 2013.

The 42-year-old has won two consecutive Serbian championships with Red Star and La Gazzetta dello Sport believes Marotta is looking at the possibility of bringing him back to the Giuseppe Meazza.

And the newspaper doesn’t want to rule out former goalkeeper Zenga, who has been without a job since leaving Cagliari in August 2020.
