According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter President Steven Zhang has identified a ‘top secret’ area to build a new stadium without Milan while tension with the Rossoneri’s new owner Gerry Cardinale grows.

The Milanese sides were supposed to build a new stadium in the San Siro area together, but the latest reports in Italy suggest Inter and Milan have now decided to part ways, making their own new stadium.

Sunday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper claims Inter President Zhang has identified a top secret area in the city of Milano and has already reached an agreement with the private owner of the territory.

According to the report, this is still Inter’s plan B, but it will become their first option as soon as they know that it will be impossible to renew the Stadio Meazza or build a new stadium in the San Siro area.

Gazzetta quotes Inter sources claiming that Zhang has held regular talks with previous Milan owner Gordon Singer who has remained on the club’s board after the sale to RedBird last summer.

The last time they spoke about the matter was before the Supercoppa clash in Ryiad, where Singer reportedly told Zhang the Rossoneri are still considering San Siro as their first option.

However, new owner Cardinale believes the new stadium must be built elsewhere, suggesting, from Inter’s perspective, that their city rivals don’t have clear ideas about the next steps.

On the other hand, Milan believe Inter’s future under Suning is uncertain, so they want to carry forward their project without the Nerazzurri. The tension between the two clubs is growing, according to Gazzetta, and it appears clear that the two clubs will part ways, building their new stadiums away from San Siro.
