There are reports that Inter will once again need to sell some of their stars in the summer after increasing their wage bill with contract extensions of some key players.
The Nerazzurri confirmed Marcelo Brozovic’s extension yesterday. The Croat international has almost doubled his salary, going from €3.5m to €6.5m per season. Both Nicolò Barella and Lautaro Martinez will get similar wages after putting pen to paper on new agreements with the club over the last few months.
Federico Dimarco and Alessandro Bastoni have recently committed their future to the club, even though their salary is not as high as those of the stars mentioned above trio.
Inter announced a loss of €245.6m for 2020-21, the highest in the history of Italian football. According to Calciomercato.com Bastoni, Barella, Lautaro and Brozovic’s new contracts are worth 40% of the Nerazzurri’s wage bill, so they will need to sell at least one of their stars in the summer.
The Serie A champions sold Achraf Hakimi to balance the books in 2021, while Romelu Lukaku asked to return to Chelsea. The next big name to leave San Siro could be Stefan de Vrij, given that his contract expires in 2023. Inter seem unwilling to offer him a contract extension, contrary to Milan Skriniar, who also sees his contract expire next year.
Alexis Sanchez, Matias Vecino and Arturo Vidal are also likely to leave the club at the end of the season. Vecino’s contract expires in the summer, while Inter have an option to end Sanchez and Vidal’s contracts in June.

Marotta will be probably selling De Vrij for the right amount, however that is not to cover wage but to reinvest into transfers (Bremer, Scamacca, etc.)
@ryan: Dybala has been playing in Italy so Inter would not benefit of the growth decree, I doubt they will go after him given his injury record. Dybala probably also wants to try his luck in other league (La Liga/P$G)
