Inter star Hakan Calhanoglu no longer wants to talk about the ‘painful’ Milan derby and is ‘motivated’ to face Bayern Munich tomorrow.

The Nerazzurri must show a reaction following Saturday’s 3-2 loss against Milan in the derby della Madonnina.

Calhanoglu was responsible for Milan’s first goal as he gave away the ball in Inter’s half, leading to Rafael Leao’s first goal.

Tomorrow, the Nerazzurri host Bayern Munich at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the opening match of the Champions League Group C.

“We must react, we have no time to relax. We analysed the last game we lost a derby because of our mistakes, but we are motivated because there is a different level in the Champions League and we must be ready,” he said at a press conference as quoted by FcInternews.

“We dominated against Real Madrid and Liverpool [last season], but we lost because of our mistakes. We must be more focused, we are 11 and the game lasts 90 minutes. We are ready, the group stage is difficult, but it’s nice to play in the Champions League to see where we are.”

Calhanoglu, a former Bayer Leverkusen star, has played many games against the Bavarians in his career.

“I know Bayern Munich well, they are strong, quick, they attack and press high.

“We must be ready, we can’t lose the ball because they are quick. The derby is the past and I no longer want to talk about it because it annoys me. It was painful but it’s the past.”

The Nerazzurri have already conceded eight goals in five Serie A games, but Calhanoglu believes the entire team, not only defenders, have responsibility.

“Small details make the difference, it’s not just about defence. We made collective mistakes and now we must react together.”

The Nerazzurri went beyond the group stage last season for the first time in 10 years but were eliminated from the Round of 16 losing 2-1 in aggregate to Liverpool.

  1. Can’t wait to see what Simpletone Inzaghi serves up against Bayern. I’m hungry for a heaping helping of tactical ignorance entertainment

  2. Having Calhanoglu in the line up is the first blunder. Man preaches team but is all about Hakan.

  3. I think most Milan fans didn’t care about Calha leaving because he was so inconsistent with his performances. Leaving to inter was not a problem. However, with his comments and the way he leaved he triggered a backlash that he seemingly can’t handle.

‘inconsistent’ is both being polite and a big understatement. With no alternatives, he would play week in week out despite putting in either woeful performances, or most of the time throwing the towel in and becoming a ghost. 20/21 season and that final game in Bergamo when Milan needed to win to guarantee top 4. He and Bennacer put on a sh*t show for the ages. It was like both were on the pitch intent on derailing Milan’s biggest game for years. Bennacer was put out of his misery after 60 minutes, but Calhanologu stayed on. we were practically playing with 10 men because all he did was give possession away.
