Stefano Sensi’s strike cancelled out a very early Lucas Moura attempt, as Inter beat Tottenham Hotspur on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Antonio Conte completed the International Champions Cup campaign in London, but was still missing Lautaro Martinez, Valentino Lazaro and Diego Godin, while Radja Nainggolan and Mauro Icardi are frozen out.

It took all of three minutes for Spurs to break the deadlock, as Erik Lamela surged forward, the defence backed off and he rolled across for Lucas Moura to blast into the roof of the net from just inside the penalty area.

Inter almost scored a magnificent equaliser with Marcelo Brozovic, who cut inside to hit a ferocious finish from 25 metres that bounced off the upright with Hugo Lloris beaten.

It was just a warning, because Stefano Sensi sprung the offside trap on a smart first-time through ball from 17-year-old Sebastiano Esposito, keeping his cool to side-foot past on-rushing Lloris into the far bottom corner.

Nicolò Barella came on for the second half with Matteo Politano, the former Sassuolo man hesitating in the box on a promising opportunity, while Christian Eriksen’s shot was charged down after an error playing out from the back.

Barella’s curler was plucked out of the far top corner, but Son Heung-Min ran the entire length of the pitch after a mistake from Politano only to be denied by a sensational Handanovic save.

Inter lost 1-0 to Manchester United and drew 1-1 with Juventus, defeated on penalties, in the pre-season tournament, but it was a very good result considering the Premier League starts next week and Serie A won’t start until August 24.

Once again, it went to penalties after a 1-1 stalemate. Handanovic parried from Christian Eriksen, but George Puscas fell to the same fate against Paulo Gazzaniga.

Handanovic stuck up a hand to keep out Oliver Skipp’s attempt and Joao Mario calmly converted the winner.
