Inter have announced they will not appeal against Cristian Chivu's four-match ban. “We appreciated the sincerity of his apology.”

Chivu escaped punishment when he punched Marco Rossi in the face during Inter's 3-0 win at Bari on Thursday evening.

Video evidence was used to inflict a four-match ban and the defender tearfully apologised to Rossi on live television.

“The club appreciated the sincerity of Chivu's apology to everyone after the incident in Bari-Inter,” read a statement.

“The club appreciated the sincerity of Chivu's apology to everyone after the incident in Bari-Inter,” read a statement.

“Despite the gravity of the sanction, Inter will not lodge an appeal, therefore accepting the decision of the Disciplinary Commission.”

It means Chivu will miss the matches against Roma, Juventus, Fiorentina, Cagliari and Sampdoria.

He will return for the trip to Sampdoria on February 27, but the ban only applies to Serie A.
