Napoli captain and Toronto FC target Lorenzo Insigne is available to face Juventus on January 6, as he has tested negative for COVID-19.

The Italy international had been in doubt for the big match against the Turin giants after contracting COVID-19 last week.

It was part of an outbreak within the squad that now includes Fabian Ruiz and Hirving Lozano, who remain in self-isolation.

‘Why are you doing it?’ Twitter reacts as Insigne makes Toronto decision

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Insigne has now tested negative today and can therefore have his medical test with the FIGC, a necessary step before he is allowed to go back to training tomorrow.

This means the captain will be available for the showdown with Juventus when the Serie A season resumes on January 6.

It is a boost for coach Luciano Spalletti, who is already missing suspended Mario Rui, injured Kalidou Koulibaly, Victor Osimhen, Adam Ounas and Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Meanwhile, Insigne remains at the centre of transfer speculation with multiple reports Toronto FC have agreed a five-year contract worth €11.5m per season plus bonuses (over €9m net).
