Milan Coach Filippo Inzaghi says he doesn’t want to use injuries as an excuse for his team’s poor form.

The Rossoneri have a lengthy injury list, with the likes of Stephan El Shaarawy, Alex, Nigel de Jong and Mattia De Sciglio all sidelined.

“I don’t want that to be an excuse,” Inzaghi insisted in his Press conference ahead of the visit of Verona.

“We have a big squad, [but] injuries have gone hand-in-hand with our position in the table. We have to understand that too.

“Now we have De Jong and [Riccardo] Montolivo out, as a result of particular situations. Every injury has a particular reason. Against Lazio in the Coppa we had seven players out with impact injuries.

“Even with muscular problems, there are specific reasons. Montolivo has kept battling because he can see the side is under pressure.

“I played with [Ciro] Ferrara who played for a year-and-a-half with the same condition and struggled to get fit.

“We can’t find a cause [for the injuries], we’ve thought about everything we’ve done. The only thing that’s changed was Dubai, where we trained and had an important friendly with Read [Madrid].

“Tomorrow [Ignazio] Abate should be back, and De Sciglio is close to recovery. What has happened will serve as a lesson, but when you lose players to impact injuries there isn’t much you can do.”

The Coach also appeared to confirm that Alessio Cerci will be given more game-time tomorrow, after coming on as a substitute in recent matches.

“Alessio is a player in good condition, since he came here he’s played 10 games.

“I think he’s in good condition and can be very helpful for us. That said, I have five good players for three places, so it’s not easy.

“We have a lot of quality up front, and we have to make the most of that.

“As for Mattia [Destro], I’ve told him not to worry. If you go two games without a goal it can seem like a crisis. I thought he played well in Verona [against Chievo].

“I also have a good player like [Giampaolo] Pazzini on the bench.”
