Reports from France detail how Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan is desperately working to be fit enough for the upcoming World Cup, despite his recent injury.

The 27-year-old Frenchman suffered a calf injury during the last international break and has remained sidelined for the last six Rossoneri outings across Serie A and the Champions League. Stefano Pioli recently suggested that Maignan would be out until 2023, but the goalkeeper seemingly has different ideas.

As reported by L’Equipe, Maignan is refusing to give up hope and is desperate to join Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. He has decided to undergo treatment under the national team’s medical staff and is expected to arrive in Clairefontaine in the early stages of this week.

Since his injury, Milan have been forced to rely on 36-year-old backup Ciprian Tatarusanu, who is doing a decent job but is clearly far less impactful than his French counterpart.
