The Biancocelesti suffered Europa League heart-break on Thursday, losing 4-1 in Austria to go out 6-5 on aggregate at the quarter-final stage.

However, they remain on course to qualify for next season’s Champions League and head into this evening’s Rome derby in third place in Serie A.

And Immobile, scorer of 39 goals in all competitions this season, thanked his club’s fans for their support in the aftermath of their Europa League elimination.

“It’s nice that the warmth of the Curva Nord is showing itself at this moment, especially after a defeat,” the 28-year-old told Lazio Style Radio.

“We need to go again with our heads high, all together. We are doing something important and we can’t throw away what we have done in the first eight months of the season.

“We thank the Curva Nord and all the Lazio fans for their closeness every day.”
