Lazio star Ciro Immobile highlighted the importance of the win over Venezia and he expects an ‘angry Roma side’ in the upcoming Derby della Capitale.

The 32-year-old Italian striker was the difference maker in the 1-0 win over the Arancioneroverdi this evening, scoring from the penalty spot to secure all three points at the Stadio Olimpico. It was a key win for the Roman club following the draws suffered by Atalanta and Roma.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia after the win, Immobile first reacted to the game against Venezia.

“It’s nice. We’ve been doing good things for a while now. Today was a difficult game, now everyone wants to score points to put themselves in a good position in the table.

“Venezia played well, we had several chances but it was important to win.”

The 32-year-old Italian commented on the captain’s armband dedicated to former captain Pino Wilson, who sadly passed away last week.

“This is a club full of history and glory. It’s made up of great champions, I’ve taken a bit from everyone. You always learn from history. Pino was a great captain.

“According to others he was a leader, a great, I tried to take the best from him. It was right to dedicate this victory to him, I know how much the people of Lazio cared about him.”

He touched on Maurizio Sarri’s suggestion that this was the best iteration of his Lazio side so far.

“I agree with the coach. We had a small drop in the second half, almost at the end. Not sure if it was due to physical factors, but maybe they were pushing a bit harder.

“Apart from the small tarnished moments he’s entertaining people.”

Finally, Immobile discussed the importance of taking 5th in the Serie A table ahead of the Derby della Capitale against Roma.

“It’s a tough season. The Champions League and the relegation battle are good. We have to be focused. This is derby week.

“The fans expect a lot from us, we’ll find an angry Roma side after the Udinese draw but we’ll be ready.”

The Lazio captain also touched on the derby when speaking to DAZN.

“I meet a lot of Roma fans who say to me, please don’t play. It’s okay to make fun of them when they do. We’ll do our best to win.”
