Lazio striker Ciro Immobile is hoping to break the all-time record for Serie A goals in a single season, 36 set by Gonzalo Higuain for Napoli in 2015-16.

The Italy international is already on 34 goals going into tonight’s match against Brescia and has two rounds to make history.

So far, Immobile has achieved the tally of 34 goals in just 35 Serie A appearances, averaging a goal every 88 minutes.

Higuain had actually done better, scoring 36 goals in 35 top flight matches for Napoli in the 2015-16 season.

Pipita also only converted three penalties during that campaign, compared to 14 for Immobile so far.

It’s already close to the previous record, which Milan legend Gunnar Nordahl had held since 1949-50, of 35 goals.

Immobile has already smashed the previous record for an Italian, which had belonged to Luca Toni on 31 goals for Fiorentina in 2005-06.

Cristiano Ronaldo is also in the running for the crown, currently on 31 goals for Juventus.
