Italy international Ciro Immobile insists Lazio will ‘continue to dream’ of the Scudetto and targets Gonzalo Higuain’s all-time goalscoring record in Serie A.

The Biancocelesti sit one point behind league leaders Juventus in the table and Immobile knows it will be ‘difficult’ to keep the momentum after a long break from football.

“Our ambitions remain, it’s obvious that we haven’t been thinking about football. Now, we must prepare ourselves mentally,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “We have 12 games to continue dreaming.

“It’s like the start of a championship. It will be difficult, but we will do our best, also to make people smile again.”

Juventus forward Gonzalo Higuain broke the Serie A goalscoring record whilst at Napoli in 2015-16, when a hat-trick against Frosinone took him to 36 goals in a single season with the Partenopei.

Immobile has bagged 27 goals in his 26 appearances so far this term and continues to believe he can beat the Argentine in the event of a resumption.

“I’m training hard to achieve this goal. It would be great,” he added. “We will see how the situation will be after this stop. I’ll give it my best.”
