Icardi limped off after just 10 minutes with a sprained right knee, as his leg got caught under him when sliding in to meet a cross.

The initial diagnosis is of a sprain, but more tests are required today or tomorrow to see if there is ligament damage, with particular concern for the collateral medial ligament.

Icardi left San Siro with a rigid protection holding his knee in place and it’s safe to assume he won’t be ready for next Saturday’s showdown with Roma.

There are fears the Argentine could be out for a month if the ligament has indeed been affected.

“Thank you for all your messages,” wrote Icardi on Instagram and Twitter.

“We’ll do the tests Monday or Tuesday, but it’s nothing serious.”

Palacio will certainly miss the head-to-head with Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, as he picked up a yellow card for time-wasting in stoppages against Bologna and will therefore be suspended.
