Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic has renewed his contract until June 2022 and said he proved the doubters wrong. ‘I have shown that age doesn’t matter’.

The 39-year-old signed a deal that will see him stay at San Siro beyond his 40th birthday and the Swede admitted to MilanTV that Milan ‘is my home’.

He was asked what the reaction of the fans would be, after the club announced the renewal with the veteran.

“I think it will be positive. Even if someone had doubts before I arrived,” Ibrahimovic told MilanTV. “I have shown that age doesn’t matter.

“It’s all about mentality. I always want to improve and do the best I can. I just want to feel good physically and be able to do the things I know how to do.”

And Ibrahimovic, who has struggled with a series of injuries in 2019-20, has contributed 15 goals in 17 games but faces a race against the clock to recover in time for the game against Lazio on Monday.

He also focused on his role on the training ground, after having explained how coach Stefano Pioli challenges him every day.

“I try to help everyone, it’s a motivation,” he said. “It gives me adrenaline to see these young people and their growth, from the first day I arrived until today, I have seen growth from each of them.

“All are willing to do their best, then in my opinion they understood the sacrifice that must be made to be where we are today.”
