One of the main shareholders of Investcorp, the Bahraini investment fund keen on buying Milan, is Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala, which could have important market ramifications.

Current Rossoneri owners Elliott management are reportedly deep in negotiations with Investcorp regarding a deal worth around €1 billion, with the American fund finally ready to cash in on the Milanese club following their takeover four years ago.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Mubadala, the €350 billion sovereign wealth fund from Abu Dhabi, is one of the main shareholders of Investcorp. The CEO of this fund is Khaldun Al-Mubarak, who is also the chairman of Manchester City.

This aspect could be more important than first appears as Investcorp could possibly be a way for the Abu Dhabi government to enter Italian football without getting involved in any dual ownership issues. This could then see Milan given significant investment, allowing them to make greater moves in the transfer market.

16 thought on “How Investcorp’s purchase of Milan would link them with Man City”
  1. As they’re using Investcorp as a vehicle to purchase the club this is deemed fine apparently. Either way it will be interesting to see how this folds out if we are sold. We might be able to dream big

  2. My fellow milanistas a lot is happening then what is being shown but this investment arm is not like the one who owns milan right now…..if deal which is almost gone through happens then we can see milan joining owners who have access to billions like other petro dollar run club…..this deal is not buy and sell for profit deal, its much better than this. Being linked with man City linked investment arm might be a possibility but watch out for some one popping out from saudia…..

  3. This is the last thing Milan need at this final part of the season. Milan are on the verge of achieving something extraordinary without these imaginary future investments on the market. One has to question the wisdom of Elliot and even Investcorp here. Do your thing in secret, let Milan finish the season without all the unwanted distraction SMFH

I don’t like City’s spending power anyway. That’s what’s wrong with football today. I’d take a Dortmund or better get our own business and sporting model over City or PSG any day. Can you imagine what Maldini can do with a significant budget? He can continue his young core+experienced winners mix to improve Milan further. It has worked and it can work on a bigger scale, too. I believe it’s also possible to win trophies with these models.

Last thing I want is Milan joining the queue of just a few clubs bidding insane money on parasites like Mbappé or Neymar or the likes …

  4. I could be for this. Could attract more revenues and paternerships for all clubs in the league. Could be a start for Serie A to grow again.

  5. Great. Bahrain and UAE are bastions of human rights so this isn’t dirty money at all. If Putin joins up too we could really be on to a winner. Sports washing, baby!

  6. I always said that if rogue oligarchs or rogue states get involved in the club, I’ll abstain from following the first team until they’re gone! Horrendous news!

  7. I guess it can be summed up several ways, in simple terms if the group what to build the next PSG then it will be time to pick another team to support . If they want to invest in the squad and not the brand it could be what what we need to get back to where we were !

  8. Everyone always sees the silver lining in these takeovers. What about the flip side? So they club gets bought, then they kick Maldini & Co out and out their people in. Milan stop developing younger players and start acquiring washed up and overhyped “names” and the club loses its soul. As it is, Milan is already barely Italian and recognizable and if oil money comes in, I fear it will be less so.

  9. To anyone afraid of UEFA and FFP and can calm you down by pointing to the fact, that FFP does NOT apply to clubs owned by ultra rich arabs. Think PSG and Man City.
