Coaching legend Ottmar Hitzfeld has warned Juventus that Champions League rivals Borussia Monchengladbach are ‘strong in attack and defence.’

Hitzfeld is the most decorated Coach in German football history and guided Borussia Dortmund to their Champions League final win over the Old Lady in 1997.

He warned the Bianconeri not to underestimate the Bundesliga side, although pointed to their inability to replace stars Max Kruse and Christoph Kramer as a weakness.

“Juve lost three important elements to their balance in Pirlo, Vidal and Tevez,” Hitzfeld said to Tuttosport.

“Now they’re working towards rediscovering new ways to play. Against City the key to their success was defensive solidity.

“Against Sevilla the difference was the better technical skill of the individuals.

“Monchengladbach is a good team, also on the international level.

“At the start of this season they paid for the absences through injury of many key players such as [Martin] Stranzl, [Alvaro] Dominguez, [Patrick] Herrmann and [Fabian] Johnson and also the sale of Kruse and Kramer, who haven’t been replaced with players of the same value.

“With the arrival of [Coach Andre] Schubert, Borussia regained its strength, that is, the team balance during both offensive and defensive phases.

“Now they more than just good game organisation again they play an entertaining style of football. Their best players are [Granit] Xhaka and Raffael.”
