The father of Gonzalo Higuain has cooled reports that the Real Madrid star could be set for a move to Juventus.

The Argentine is the latest striker to be paired with the Old Lady as their search for a new centre-forward continues.

After links with Karim Benzema, Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero, stories in Spain and Italy suggested that Higuain could be targeted next.

"A lot of clubs like my son," Jorge Higuain told Tuttosport.

"Juventus are one of the most important sides in Europe, but nobody has spoken to us about them.

"We are honoured by their interest, but Gonzalo wants to remain in Spain with Real Madrid."

The latest speculation suggests that Higuain could be sacrificed by Real if they manage to sign Aguero from city rivals Atletico.

The 23-year-old forward, nicknamed 'El Pipita', was actually born in France but represents Argentina on the international stage as he moved to South America before his first birthday.

He joined Real in 2007 after two years with River Plate.
