“I thought a lot [about moving to Napoli],” he told a Press conference. “The decision was taken after a long time.
“I spoke to friends and also the President, who persuaded me. It is an important project here. We have a good team and we need to do great things.
“The fans are very passionate and you can see that they push the team along. It took me a little time to decide, but this is a team on the rise.
“Everyone knows why I came here – the club have faith in me. It is important we do well on the field.
“Our idea is the Scudetto. Last season we played a great championship and we'll try to finish as high as possible this time.
“Italy has always had great strikers, just like there are in La Liga. Balotelli, for example, is a great player.
“I came here because this is a great team with a good structure. I can only be grateful for the trust they have put in me.
“I have already felt the affection of the fans. It happened at the stadium and at the airport in Rome.
“I am just grateful to the President and I hope I can renew his faith this season.
“We have some great players and also a great Coach, so we have to fight in every competition.
“I do not know if I will score more or less goals than [Edinson] Cavani, but here I have found a large group with other Spaniards, Colombians and Argentines – so that should help.
“It is just a privilege for me to be playing with great players.
“I remember watching Napoli against Chelsea a few years ago and thinking that this was a team to be reckoned with.
“I just can't wait to play on the legendary field of the San Paolo.”
Higuain then commented on the threat that Juventus will pose this term.
“I think this year we will fight with them for the Scudetto,” he added. “We all know that Juve will be there or thereabouts, but it is important that we have confidence in ourselves.
“We have to play every game thinking we can win – and we certainly have the potential to do so.”
