Gonzalo Higuain has admitted that both Leonardo and Elliott Management ‘had a lot to do’ with his transfer to Milan.

It had been reported that a meeting between Leonardo and Higuain was needed to convince the striker to leave Juventus for Milan, and the Argentine highlighted the Rossoneri’s ‘great effort’ to bring him in.

“I want to thank Milan for the great effort they made to bring me here,” he began at a Press conference.

“It’s a great challenge for me. I hope to repay the faith they’ve shown me. I’ve joined a club with an immense history.

“I decided to come here, I like everything that I’ve seen, the fans deserve Milan to go back where they’ve always been.

“I knew Leonardo already, he had a lot to do with my arrival. His words convinced me, I saw the honesty and confidence in his eyes.

“I thank him very much for that. He was important in me coming here. Elliott also showed this conviction to take Milan back to the top.

“I worked with Allegri for two years, we had our differences but they didn’t lead me to come here, only the motivation that Milan showed me.

“I have a lot of confidence in this team, I liked how they played last season. I’ve played for teams who have always aimed to win, and Milan have always aimed to win.

“The challenge is to get the team winning again. I’m very happy to be here. I’ve worn two shirts that carry weight, so the No 9 jersey here isn’t a problem.

“It’s a source of pride, a great new challenge in my career. I just have to show Leo and the club why they made this investment.

“If this team believe they can go far, they will. We must have great confidence to do things right.”
