Andrea Petagna came off the bench to snatch victory for Napoli after classy Fabian Ruiz and Andrea Cambiaso goals, but Goran Pandev’s disallowed strike caused controversy.
The Partenopei had to make adjustments in the absence of Victor Osimhen and Dries Mertens, so Fabian Ruiz broke the deadlock with a well-taken left-foot strike from the edge of the box.
Pandev thought he had equalised following an Alex Meret howler, but VAR came to the goalkeeper’s rescue.
Cambiaso did eventually volley in a wonderful Paolo Ghiglione cross at the back post, but Petagna’s header on a Mario Rui free kick proved decisive.
