Davide Ballardini saw four or five Napoli players laughing at Genoa‘s disallowed goal but admits the referee ‘is allowed to make mistakes.’

Genoa lost their first home game of the season against Napoli with Andrea Petagna, who scored a late winner at Marassi.

“Genoa played a good game, we played on par with Napoli and we are satisfied with our performance against a top team. I saw the usual Genoa today, with clear ideas and personality,” Ballardini told DAZN.

Goran Pandev saw a goal harshly disallowed for a nudge on Alex Meret.

Spalletti: ‘Of course Genoa goal was a foul’

“I think it wasn’t foul, I saw four or five Napoli players laughing because they were convinced the goal was valid,” the coach revealed.

“I don’t care about these things, a referee can make mistakes in good faith as coaches and players do.

“I think Pandev is the youngest player we have in the team, we have many examples here: him, Behrami and Sirigu,” Ballardini continued.

“Pandev must not be managed, he can play when he is fit. Sometimes he can start on the bench for a strange strategy, but Goran is a young player and he proves it every training session.”

Andrea Cambiaso scored his first Serie A goal and he could remain at the Ferraris this season.

“It could be, we have other players who could leave on loan to gain experience,” Ballardini admitted.

“They’ll be considered when they’ll prove to be ready.”
