“We knew that with a victory tonight we’d get closer to Roma,” Hamsik told Sky Sport Italia after beating Sassuolo 2-0.
“We were convinced that we could get this result, even if we knew that it wouldn’t be easy against Sassuolo and it was tough.
“Is second place now a concrete target? Seeing the table as it stands now, definitely yes. We are up to the task, we’re close and will challenge right to the end.
“There are still many matches ahead of us.”
Next week could already see Napoli complete the comeback, as Roma host Juventus.
