The Serie A squad was in the middle of exercises at the Pegli ground when the sounds of five shots rang out in the air at around 15.00 GMT.
The players and staff were ushered inside while the situation was clarified.
A stolen car was being pursued by police on the nearby motorway and shots were fired after the thieves hit an officer with the vehicle.
The motorway was temporarily shut down following the incident too.
