Francesco Guidolin is touted as the favourite to take over if Lazio give Stefano Pioli the sack.

The team was placed in an indefinite training retreat after scraping one point from four Serie A games.

Pioli was also reportedly in a crisis meeting with director of sport Ighli Tare yesterday.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, if Lazio do decide to wield the axe, Guidolin is being lined up for the job.

The former Udinese Coach is currently out of work, having taken time out from management due to stress and found that the role of director didn’t suit him.

Walter Mazzarri is also up for consideration, but his hefty wages and current negotiations with MLS club Toronto FC make that unlikely.

Simone Inzaghi, a former Lazio player and brother of ex-Milan boss Pippo, is the current youth team Coach and could be promoted temporarily.
