Caretaker manager Luca Gotti maintains Udinese must believe in themselves and shake off “panic” to perform after a 2-1 win over Cagliari.

Rodrigo De Paul’s stunning curler had opened the scoring, while Seko Fofana got the winner just a minute after Joao Pedro’s temporary equaliser.

“I saw a good Udinese for 70 minutes, facing Cagliari the right way both defensively and in attack. Sometimes we can get these five minutes of panic after Radja Nainggolan hit the post, for example, and that can take us out of the game,” Gotti told Sky Sport Italia.

“However, when we focus and believe in ourselves, we play very well and are largely in control. The problem is when we allow chances that we shouldn’t at this level.

“This team needs to build up its self-confidence over time, to see the results come regularly and that hasn’t been happening really for years at Udine. This club has been battling to avoid relegation in recent seasons, so you can’t just switch that mentality straight away.

“We tend to play with confidence for only portions of games, for example against Juventus in the second half. We’re growing slowly and will become more consistent.”
