The Friuli started 2020 with a great run of results but have stagnated somewhat during the last month.

The Bianconeri are currently four points above relegation in Serie A and Gotti has been taking a quick look over his shoulder before insisting that Udinese should worry about themselves.

“We have to look at ourselves, especially after a round of fixtures where the teams in the bottom half have picked up points,” Gotti told Udinese TV. “I won’t be satisfied until we have achieved our target.

“We have managed to build something on our attitude but so far we’ve lacked a bit of luck.”

He was appointed as the successor to Igor Tudor earlier this campaign and has previously only worked as an assistant.

He admitted that the opportunity came by chance and said the Zebrette had few options at the time.

“The 11 goals we conceded between Atalanta and Roma changed the scenario for at team that had given no warning about an existing problem,” he added. “I was called because there wasn’t time to find a new coach.

“A lot of valuable coaches have come to Udine, but in that moment, there weren’t anyone available and for that reason I can’t say if I’m the right man for this Udinese.

“The contingency of the moment has brought me into my current role, and we will see what happens with time.”

This weekend they travel to Bologna, who lost 3-0 to Genoa last weekend and currently 10th in the League after 24 rounds.
