“I am recovering very well and think that at the end of the week I’ll be able to train on the field, even if I can’t train with the ball yet,” he told Viola Channel in his first interview conducted in Italian.
“When I picked up the injury we said it would be seven or eight weeks. Now I’ve been out for four and feel good, even if it’s tough being in the stands. I am more anxious than when I step onto the pitch!
“I hope to be back playing soon, even though I have to ‘listen’ to what my knee is telling me.
“The training ground and the city are beautiful, but the team and the way they play football are what really drew me to Fiorentina. I like the way they pass the ball and attack. I watched many of their games last season.
“It has been easy to settle in with such a great group of players. We really get along and the fans are also wonderful, as you can feel their passion for the team.
“I get on very well with Rossi and he is an extraordinary player. He was just unlucky with injuries, but he’s one of the greatest strikers in the world.”
Naturally, Gomez was asked about Fiorentina-Juventus and the heated rivalry between the teams.
“It is a very important match for the team and the fans, as everyone in the city is talking about it. We have to play with our usual identity and win this game.”
