The Uruguayan veteran arrived last summer and has been struggling to convince in Serie A, leading to reports linking the 34-year-old with a hasty farewell this summer.

The rumours ‘surprises’ the centre-back, who signed a deal until June 2022 when he arrived at the Giuseppe Meazza from Atletico Madrid.

“The truth is that these news about me leaving Milan surprises me a lot,” Godin told Il Corriere dello Sport. “Since I arrived at Inter, I have always felt great. Both with the club and the fans.

“I feel the club trusts me and I’m at home. I never considered leaving Inter. I feel part of the project and the dressing room is spectacular.

“My intention is to respect the contract and enjoy this wonderful adventure in Italy and with the Nerazzurri shirt.”

Inter prepare to resume against Sampdoria on Sunday and currently sit nine points behind league leaders Juventus with a game in hand.

They are also through to the last 16 in the Europa League, a tournament Godin won twice at Atleti, and now he wants to bring silverware to the Beneamata.

“It was my choice to come here and I did it with the intention of helping this club win titles, to win as much as possible.

“I understand the club is happy with me too. And that fills me with pride. It’s not trues that I want to leave. I have never spoken to anyone about this hypothesis.

“I will stay here and do everything necessary to help the team. If the managers are happy with my performance, my experience at Inter can continue.”
