Olivier Giroud admits he felt ‘dead’ after the full 90 minutes against Bologna and his acrobatic goal, but Milan ‘had fun’ at San Siro.

The France international had his first start of the Serie A season after shaking off muscular issues and marked it with a goal, his acrobatic glancing volley on a Rafael Leao ball floated over the top.

Leao had already put the Rossoneri 1-0 up at San Siro over Bologna by meeting the Charles De Ketelaere assist.

“The last game I played all the way through was four weeks ago against Marseille, so I needed to play, but at the end I felt dead!” Giroud told DAZN and Sky Sport Italia.

“I am happy to have contributed a goal and helped the team. We had fun, we played against a good team, the second goal settled us down.”

Milan won the Scudetto last season against all odds and are now in a Champions League group with Chelsea, RB Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb.

“As I always say, you have to start from scratch every day. We take it one game at a time. We are unbeaten in 19 Serie A matches and must continue with this team spirit to give our all. There are five clubs in the running for the Scudetto and it’s only the start.”

Divock Origi remained on the bench this evening, but he is still getting to grips with Serie A after leaving Liverpool as a free agent.

“Origi was injured for a long time, he was unlucky, but now he’s doing his best to get back on the field. It’s positive to have more competition for places upfront.”
