Milan striker Olivier Giroud scored a brace against Panathinaikos on Saturday and revealed ‘we understand each other very well on the pitch’ after the successful start.

The Frenchman has arrived to lighten the weight carried by Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the Milan attack, ahead of a season that includes the Champions League for the Rossoneri.

He continued with another two goals against the Greek side on Saturday, in Milan’s final test before preparing for the opening game in Serie A next weekend.

Milan 2-1 Panathinaikos: Giroud brace in the final test

“I’m very happy,” Giroud told Sky Sport Italia. “Today was a very good game for me, because I scored two goals.

“I thank the lads for the assists. We could have scored even more goals, I also hit the post. We are improving with every game by creating many chances in the last metres.

“We are sorry to have conceded a goal, but I’m very satisfied with the performance.”

Giroud said his form is also down to the ‘desire and understanding’ between him and his new teammates at Milanello.

“I don’t think it’s a question of players or how many forwards that are playing, but there’s a desire to play well together and create opportunities,” he continued.

“We understand each other very well on the pitch and I have a good relationship with all my teammates.

“Everyone must help and we have high hopes for the future.”

Giroud admitted he is still house hunting in Milan and looks forward to settle down.

“I haven’t found a house, I can’t wait to be able to settle down,” Giroud. “Schools for the children will start soon, I hope to find it as soon as possible.”

Then a question regarding him and Zlatan Ibrahimovic starting up front together.

“I think it’s good for the team to have many strikers with different characteristics,” Giroud continued. “We know Ibra’s qualities and mine. We are satisfied with how we are growing and I can’t wait to start Serie A.”

Milan start Serie A 2021-22 with a trip to Sampdoria on August 23, before hosting Cagliari at San Siro six days later.

After the international break, Zlatan and Franck Kessie are also expected to return from injury against Lazio on September 12.
