Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, who had been linked with Juventus, Inter and Lazio admits he was close to a Serie A move in the summer transfer window.

The French striker is reported to have had an agreement with his club that would allow him to leave Stamford Brige for a fee of €5m.

Giroud was linked with a move to Juventus during the summer transfer window that closed this past Monday while Inter and Lazio had been considered possible destinations for the World Cup winner back in January.

Giroud was linked with a move to Juventus during the summer transfer window that closed this past Monday while Inter and Lazio had been considered possible destinations for the World Cup winner back in January.

“I can’t rule anything out for my future but I don’t see myself going back to the Ligue 1,” he told RMC.

“I want to play at the highest level in Europe for two or three more years and then maybe move to the MLS," he continued.

“I was close to moving to Serie A where experienced players are admired but in the end my transfer to Italy did not happen.

“Who knows what the future has in store for me. I’ll evaluate the opportunities that I may have.”
