The Italian international has returned to the port club after a successful loan spell last term with Bologna.

However, the former Parma, Milan and Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”4″>Fiorentina striker is being linked with a move away – with Roma and Napoli named as possible destinations.

“Gilardino is, without any doubt, important for this team,” Biondini, who himself spent 2012-13 on loan at Atalanta, stated.

“And we can not wait to start taking advantage of his eye for goal.”

Gilardino, born in 1982, switched to Genoa in January 2012 from Fiorentina, but he only scored four goals in 14 games before moving to the Dall’Ara.

The 2006 World Cup winner grabbed 13 in 36 League games for the Rossoblu last term.
