The fans had unrolled a banner in his honour, saying 'Marco Giampaolo, stay with us'.
“I was pleased by the banner, the people always loved me here and they allowed me to work at my best,” he told the Press after the game. “I'm really delighted by this display of affection.”
Giampaolo was asked what his future would be, and whether he'd take up an offer by a big team.
“There are a whole lot of 'ifs' in the way. We'll see, but for now I can only thank Empoli, who gave me the opportunity to return. We managed to save ourselves from relegation, and that was my only objective.
“Now I can have a chilled chat with the club. The only thing that's certain is that Empoli's players did very well this season, and several of them will end up leaving. This is only fair, but Empoli always knows how to sort itself out.”
