He is expected to put pen to paper on a contract until 2023 with Flamengo, who already have Inter loanee Gabriel Barbosa on their books.

The 22-year-old was tipped to be the next big thing when Roma splashed out around €15m to sign him from Fluminense in January 2016, amidst interest from Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Juventus.

However, he struggled to live up to expectations at the Olimpico and was loaned to Fiorentina last season.

Despite an offer to join Dinamo Moscow, Gerson preferred to return to his native Brazil.
