Inter’s revival was short-lived, as they went down 2-0 to Genoa after a bizarre Andrea Ranocchia own goal and Goran Pandev poacher’s finish.

The Nerazzurri thought their crisis had ended after a two-month winless streak when beating nine-man Bologna, but they were right back to the drawing board at Marassi.

This result, and Roma’s victory at Udinese, means they drop down to fourth and potentially fifth if Lazio defeat Verona on Monday.

This result, and Roma’s victory at Udinese, means they drop down to fourth and potentially fifth if Lazio defeat Verona on Monday.

Missing injured Mauro Icardi, Ivan Perisic and Joao Miranda, they struggled to create many genuine chances.

The worst problems were in defence, where first Samir Handanovic was saved by the crossbar when misjudging a long Pandev cross, then Milan Skriniar’s terrible clearance ricocheted off Ranocchia’s knee for a truly comical own goal.

Pandev showed quick reactions to turn a wayward Diego Laxalt shot into an assist, turning in from 12 yards for the second goal against his old club.

Eder had the best chance to get back into the game, but his curler was cleared off the line by Ervin Zukanovic.
