Genoa keeping things goalless against Atalanta today means that they are only one away from matching the all time Serie A consecutive draw record.

The Rossoblu have picked up seven consecutive draws since coach Alexander Blessin took over from Andriy Shevchenko back in January, picking up points against Jose Mourinho’s Roma and Simone Inzaghi’s Inter. The draw against la Dea today means they still sit 19th in the league table, three points behind 18th place Venezia and six behind Cagliari.

As highlighted by journalist Giuseppe Pastore, Genoa’s run of seven consecutive draws means they now sit one behind the all time Serie A record, held by Varese who picked up eight draws in a row in the 1970-71 campaign.

All 14 halves of Genoa matches overseen by Blessin have also ended in a draw, such as the Venezia game which saw the two teams go into the half-time break tied at 1-1. There have been no goals in the second halves of these encounters, a sign of the Ligurian side’s defensive solidity under their new German coach.
