Napoli are widely believed to be keen to strengthen in January and their President Aurelio De Laurentiis hinted earlier this week that movement cannot be ruled out.

It is believed today that they are already in talks with Genoa, over a proposed swap deal involving four players.

The Grifone have reportedly been offered Chilean youngster Vargas and back-up goalkeeper Antonio Rosati as part of a deal to take German playmaker Merkel and striker Immobile to the San Paolo.

The club’s respective sporting directors Rino Foschi and Riccardo Bigon are understood to have already discussed at length the details behind this winter transfer window deal.

However, Juventus will play a part in the deal, as they co-own Immobile and are reportedly considering offers to send him back to Pescara for the second half of 2012-13, or to Palermo, who are also understood to have come in with an offer.

Should Immobile prove impossible to include in this deal, Napoli are reportedly set to settle on taking Marco Borriello from Marassi instead.
