Genoa have announced that they will definitely sign a new centre-forward during the January transfer window.

“We’ll bring in a striker, that’s for sure,” sporting director Stefano Capozucca told Radio Sportiva on Friday afternoon.

“Juventus striker Amauri? We will just have to wait and see whether the player will be Amauri or someone else…

“We know what we have been missing so far this season, but we also know where we have to look for it.”

The Stadio Ferraris outfit have also been paired with the likes of Alberto Gilardino of Fiorentina and Inter’s Diego Milito.

Meanwhile, the official has explained why the club opted to sack boss Alberto Malesani on Thursday evening.

“It was hard to tell him that he had been dismissed,” Capozucca continued. “After all, the League table is not too ugly seeing as we have 21 points.

“However, what happened in the 6-1 loss at Napoli on Wednesday induced the President, and not just him, to take this decision.”

Former Parma and Udinese tactician Pasquale Marino has been appointed as Malesani’s replacement at Marassi.
