Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis is still ‘optimistic’ about the new stadium project and believes it could be the beginning of ‘something important’ in Italy.

The plans for the new stadium to replace or even restyle San Siro were put on hold due to the uncertainty of Inter’s financial situation.

But Gazidis is ‘optimistic’ the two clubs can build a new stadium together and make it ‘one of the best in the world’.

The former Arsenal director said the project could be the ‘start of something important’ that will help the growth of Italian football.

“If we look at the Premier League,” the Rossoneri CEO told Il Corriere dello Sport. “The basis of the relaunch were the stadiums.

“If we manage to build our stadium here in Milan, making it one of the best in the world – the most beautiful ever – we can start something important for Italy too.

“I remain optimistic. Not only for Milan, but for Italian football in general.”
