Milan picked up 70 Serie A points in 2018, the same number as Inter and fewer only than Juventus and Napoli.

Although Gennaro Gattuso was at risk of dismissal ahead of Saturday’s 2-1 victory over SPAL, the statistics show he has done a remarkably good job this calendar year.

His Rossoneri put together 70 Serie A points over the last 12 months, more than in any year since 2012.

They also managed as many as their bigger-spending city rivals Inter, who also got 70 points under Luciano Spalletti.

The only clubs to have done better in 2018 were Napoli on 87 points and runaway leaders Juventus on 101.

Since taking over from Vincenzo Montella in November 2017, Gattuso has earned 20 Serie A victories, 15 draws and only eight defeats.
