“We worked with enthusiasm, I liked the spirit of the side and I am satisfied with how we approach this game,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We are well aware that there are many players out of action, but that isn’t an excuse and we must all give more. We’ve got to grit our teeth all together.”

Hakan Calhanoglu and Davide Calabria are in the side, but in doubt, while Lucas Biglia, Giacomo Bonaventura and Mattia Caldara are long-term absentees.

“I think we could have Alessio Romagnoli and Mateo Musacchio back in around three weeks, but that is just my opinion. The problem is that so many players have suffered injuries at the same time. We’re trying to figure out what has gone wrong, but the truth is Milan had even more injury problems in previous years.

“Calhanoglu is available, but his performances have been at 50 per cent this season because he played through gritted teeth and pain. We’re forcing him to play, but he’s not in good shape, his right foot hurts and he struggles to kick the ball.”

Gonzalo Higuain is suspended after his red card in the 2-0 defeat to Juventus.

“Juve are the strongest side in Serie A and not everything about our game with them was worth throwing out. We lost to Inter because of incidents too, so nobody has been able to really out-play Milan.

“Lazio are a team who put a lot of players into attack and made very few changes from last season. Nobody attacks the space like Ciro Immobile.”

What does Gattuso say of reports Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants a six-month loan deal to come back to San Siro from LA Galaxy?

“He was my teammate, we had a good rapport. Every Coach wishes he had a player like that. I thank him for what he said about Milan and he is thinking about it.”
