According to the Corriere dello Sport, the prime candidate to replace Giampaolo is the man who made way for him in the first place – Gennaro Gattuso.

The tactician walked away over the summer, terminating his contract by mutual consent after taking the Rossoneri to within a point of the Champions League spots.

However, it’s reported Gattuso did not get along with director and former teammate Maldini, so would only be prepared to return if the club legend left.

Other names put forward to take over from Giampaolo are Rudi Garcia, Claudio Ranieri and potentially also Arsene Wenger.
