Stefano Pioli is also a candidate to take over, but Sky Sport Italia claim initial negotiations have already begun with the former Milan boss.

If he was to take the job, his first game on the Marassi bench would be against his old club Milan.

“Today, one team clearly deserved to win and one clearly deserved to lose,” confessed Andreazzoli on Sky Sport Italia.

“There was dominance in every area: character, possession, resoluteness and organisation. We could’ve done more, but were also unlucky with Thomas Strakosha making some great saves.

“It becomes complicated if we don’t finish our scoring opportunities against a much stronger team. We have lost our way and I take responsibility, not the lads.”
