Gennaro Gattuso wants to put the controversy behind him in the Coppa Italia semi-final. “I have a dream Milan and Lazio can walk out arm-in-arm.”

The row is still rumbling on after last week’s ill-tempered Milan 1-0 Lazio Serie A match at San Siro, which concluded with Tiemoue Bakayoko and Franck Kessie waving Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi’s shirt as if it were a trophy or the spoils of war, holding it up to their fans and laughing.

It’s reported the players will be fined a total of €86,000 for the incident, which is the subject of an investigation by the FIGC for unsporting conduct.

Lazio ultras were then filmed aiming racist chants at Bakayoko during their midweek Serie A match against Udinese.

The teams will go head-to-head again at San Siro in next Wednesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final and Milan Coach Gattuso thinks he can resolve the issue.

“We must focus only on what is on the pitch. There was an incident, we were wrong and we apologised,” said Gattuso in his Press conference.

“I have a dream that Milan and Lazio can walk out on to the field arm-in-arm so we can put an end to this controversy.”
